Racial Trauma Support Group
A safe space to discuss when you’ve been tokenized or othered based on the color of your skin
Asé Therapy and Services presents a 6-week support group for survivors of racial trauma and PTSD. Despite the awakening of 2020, we know that people of color continue to experience racial trauma and stress every day.
We built a support group to hear these experiences and provide helpful tools from mental health providers about how to cope.
The 6-week virtual group will
1. Create connections between people of color who have experienced racial trauma
2. Validate the oppression experienced by people of color at the hands of white supremacy
3. Teach mindfulness and other tools to support the holistic wellness and healthy racial identity of people of color
The group will be led by Matenyeh Kaba and Michelle Collins, LCMFT. Matenyeh previously worked on a task force at her undergraduate campus responding to students of color experiencing racism and discrimination. Participants in the support group will be positively impacted by her expertise in first-aid response to racial trauma victims. Michelle Collins has years of experience supporting Black and Brown people navigating predominantly white spaces and attempting to protect their racial identity in the meantime. Michelle also has lived experiences navigating racial trauma in academic, work, and living spaces.
