    Who We Are

    Asé Therapy and Services approaches mental health with the idea that if there is a will to change, then change will happen. Our practice aims to give our clients the power and knowledge they need to create change in their lives.

    In addition to therapy, we offer support groups, professional development, training and education for corporations and non-profits, internship opportunities for pre-licensed and Master’s level students, and clinical supervision for MFTs in Maryland and Social Workers in DC.

    JaNay DeVaugh, Clinical Student Intern

    Serves Maryland

    Under Supervision with Michelle Collins, LCMFT

    JaNay (pronouns: she/her/hers) joins Asé as a counseling intern from Washington, DC.  She lives in Baltimore and is currently pursuing her Clinical Mental Health Counseling licensure. She has obtained her Masters in Psychology with a concentration in Child & Adolescent Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelors from Loyola University Maryland.

    JaNay has over 4 years of experience working in Baltimore City with youth survivors of sexual traumas. She also has experience working with clients who have complex traumas and behavioral difficulties. She has an interest in continuing her work with youth and families to promote healthy family communication and connection. She intends to expand her work to include couples and individual therapy as well. 

    JaNay is also an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and loves working with clients within this community to deepen their understanding of themselves, aid in their ability to advocate for their needs, and to be heard. JaNay believes advocacy and acknowledgement of every client is important in the work that she does.

    Her passion is to use integrative approaches with youth and their families to promote better outcomes when coping with mental, physical, social, and emotional distress. JaNay has experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral therapy approaches in her work.  

    Dr. Tammy Parks, Clinical Therapist Intern

    Serves Maryland

    Dr. Tammy Parks, DNP, MSN-RN, PMP joins Asé as a clinical student intern with years of experience providing quality care to folks in the DMV.

    She is currently enrolled in a Post-Master’s Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. She has over 5 years of experience as an adult primary care nurse practitioner and registered nurse, working with older adults in the District of Columbia long-term care program. Her doctoral studies at the University of Miami focused on social prescribing, an emerging evidence-based practice that addresses social and economic factors along with traditional medical care.

    Her passion is to provide holistic care to promote optimal outcomes for individuals and groups living with social, mental, physical, and/or economic distress.

     

     

    Samina Khawaja, Individual and Family Therapist

    Serves Virginia and D.C. Residents

    Samina (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia and Virginia; she has over a decade of experience working with families and individuals in a variety of clinical settings.  She completed her Master’s in Community Counseling at Argosy University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Psychology and Psychology from the University of Virginia. 

    Samina is passionate about working alongside youth, families, and individuals with purpose and respect.  She aims to guide families and individuals as they navigate difficult challenges, ease emotional burdens, and engage in self-expression and reflection.  Samina works to create a space where one can be their authentic self in order to embark on a meaningful journey of healing and growth.

    Samina is trained in a variety of evidence based treatment modalities to include, but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Functional Family Therapy.  However, she believes that there is more to the incredibly complex human experience than any single approach or modality can capture. She utilizes a holistic and culturally sensitive approach to meet families and individuals where they are.

    Kalphria Wilson, Individual and Family Therapist

    Serves Residents of DC and Maryland

    Kalphria (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Individual Clinical Social Worker in the District of Columbia who has had over seven years providing clinical services in trauma-informed settings. She has obtained a Master’s in Social Work, Clinical Track from the University of Maryland-Baltimore and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minor in Sociology from the Florida State University.

    Kalphria seeks to hold space for individuals on the path to healing from trauma, violence, systemic oppression, abuse, and grief and loss. She is passionately committed to working with marginalized groups to address inequalities in race, gender, sexual identity and sexual orientation.

    Kalphria grounds her therapeutic work in Systems Theory and uses tenets of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing Therapy. However, she does not believe that there is only one pathway to healing and adjusts to meet each individual’s unique needs.

    In her free time, Kalphria enjoys traveling to expand her knowledge and experience with different cultures, attending events with live music, and tending to her plant babies.

    Michelle Collins, Founder and Therapist

    Accepting Consultations, Supervision Requests, and Speaking Engagements

    Michelle (she/her/hers) is a licensed couple and family therapist based out of Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Master’s in Couple and Family Therapy. People who work with Michelle describe her as compassionate, funny, and knowledgeable.

    Michelle has over 6 years of experience providing counseling to couples, families, and individuals. Michelle has specialized training in supporting people who are seeking pre-marital support/therapy, folks who have experienced trauma, attachment issues in families and couples, and families with adolescents. Michelle approaches therapy using techniques that help clients learn coping skills, grow beyond old patterns, improve health, change relationships, and deepen sense of self. Michelle’s lived experiences as a Black woman, wife, and mother aide in her ability to help clients.

    Michelle has valuable knowledge in a variety of mental health issues and provides professional trainings, corporate presentations, and consulting. She is a Prepare/Enrich trainer for prospective facilitators and offers clinical supervision to Marriage and Family Therapists in Maryland. Michelle is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor-in training.

    In her downtime, Michelle enjoys cooking, reading Sci-Fi books, watching TikToks, and spending time with her family.
